DMo 2018 - Disease Modelling Workshop

We are pleased to announce that the Disease Modelling Workshop 2018 will be on the 23rd – 27th April 2018 which will take place at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. This year in its 5th run, the workshop will be “PROBLEM-DRIVEN” whereby the participants will post transmission dynamics problems and at the end of the workshop, participants will gain answers to their problems.

We organised it in such a way as it still holds on the original objective of the workshop, which aims to bring together researchers in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science and Public Health in one platform to share knowledge and current research activities mainly in facilitating the eradication and control of infectious diseases. This Problem-Driven workshop will ensure that the workshop will be more hands-on.

Organisations, as a minimum requirement as far as practicable to demonstrate compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental ‘SHE’ legal requirements.  They should also demonstrate compliance with the SHE Management System. Short Course Identification, Notification, Labelling and Storage of Scheduled Wastes

Programme Overview
Scheduled wastes are by nature very toxic and dangerous. Improper management of such wastes will lead to serious pollution of the environment and the ecosystems as well as immediate/long term impact to the human health. Managing scheduled wastes require comprehensive understanding of regulatory framework, waste properties, waste management concepts and the accepted good management practices. This unique training course which focuses on hands-on approach is in fact the only one of its kind in Malaysia.

Objective?

  • Basic understanding on storage and handling of scheduled wastes and its records keeping
  • Working knowledge on the EQA (Scheduled Waste) Regulations 2005
  • Sound understanding on the importance of records keeping such as  notification of scheduled waste (Second Schedule), inventory of scheduled wastes (Fifth Schedule), consignment notes for scheduled waste(Sixth Schedule),  and the purpose and use of Seventh Schedule,  i.e.  information  of  scheduled wastes  practical  knowledge  of  the e-Consignment Note.

Groundwater Modelling for Beginner

Groundwater Modelling for Beginner is a three-day hands-on course which will introduce attendees to the theory and practice of computer simulation of groundwater flow processes. Groundwater modelling plays a significant role in the assessment of the sustainability of groundwater resources and particularly in the prediction of impacts likely to be caused by human activities or climate change. It is an objective methodology that forms a component of the broader science environmental modelling which deals with the science and art of simulating environmental phenomena, in order to address questions of a "what' happened?" and "what if?" nature.Groundwater models are essential tools for predicting what is expected to happen to groundwater levels, stream interaction and dependent ecosystems as groundwater is pumped for irrigation or public water supply, or intercepted during mining or infrastructure activities.
